Tomorrow would be the first day of Year 2 of Piolho Sintético (yep, this started on May 5th 2007). But I’ve become less and less enthusiastical about it, and today I make it official: Piolho Sintético is closed. It will live on here, but I will no longer update it.

So long, thanks for all the fish, and May the Fourth be with you.

Murder and suicide caused by bad SMS usability »

At a certain occasion,  24-year old Ramazan has told his wife (Ella, 20) that she changed subject whenever she remained argumentless. But many mobile phone keyboards do not have a key to allow or facilitate typing the letter ı (closed “i”, which is written with no dot). Thus, instead of “sıkısınca” (when you remain argumentless), he typed “sikisince” (when someone fucks you).

Exploring the mystery behind the reflection in Dick Cheney's glasses »

A photograph of Dick Cheney shows a reflection in his sunglasses that some think is a naked woman. Image processing and photo analysis has cleared up the matter.
This is a set of images documenting a scale model of the world’s richest duck’s money bin, built by me in 2002/3, using blueprints created by the great Don Rosa and Dan Shane. The blueprints are a part of the Rosa story “The Beagle Boys Vs. The Money Bin” from 2001.

Heartbeat Hoodie »

The Heartbeat Hoodie explores the idea of involuntarily documenting parts of life using a camera to take photographs at moments of interest or excitement. The camera, strategically placed above the eyes on the hoodie, takes photographs as the wearer’s heart rate increases. The camera is wired discreetly through the seeming of the garment to a basic stamp that communicates with a wireless heart rate monitor. The basic stamp uses an algorithm to analyze the heartbeat for increases that might signify a moment of excitement or interest as opposed to physical exercise. At the end of the day, you can reflect on moments that caused interest and excitement by viewing the photographs. Since the photographs are taken involuntarily, you may find new points of interest that you were not conscious of.

Randy Pausch, on his Last Lecture. Btw, my parents let me do it when I was a kid. :)

Fernando António Nogueira Pessoa

I’m not a fan of the genre, but I so wanna see what comes out of this. Project Fernando Pessoa, by Rui Miguel Abreu and D-Mars, will unite names in the portuguese hip hop scene, like DJ Ride and Sam the Kid, in a hip hop album based on the poetry of Fernando Pessoa and his heteronyms (remembering the three most well-known ones: Alberto Caeiro, Álvaro de Campos, Ricardo Reis).

The release of the album will be preceded by a live reunion of the Project, on June 13th — Pessoa’s birthday, and day of the saint that gave him his second name António.
